Getting the word out
Growth of our neighborhood association's awareness and participation
May 2019
We are working on getting the Town to fund a few re-usable lawn signs so we can tape information to the center of the sign to share information about our neighborhood association. We have gained traction with our Facebook page and email list but we know that we are not capturing all our neighbors with communications about events and news. We've seen these signs in use by Seneca and Rogers Orchard neighborhoods and we think the signs are very effective.
Proposed use of Temporary Signage:
1. Signs to communicate about Lakeside Neighborhood Association activity should be placed on lawns in high-traffic areas and only with consent of property owner (even if in Town's right-of-way).
2. Text/Info on the sign must be approved by the Lakeside Board.
3. Signs should be placed no more than one week before the event and come down no more than one day after. Examples for sign include meetings, social gatherings, and other Lakeside-wide events.
4. When not in use, signs will be stored by the President of the Lakeside Board.

Welcome Megan, New Board Member

Hello Lakeside!
Wow – what an excellent start to the summertime weather here in Lakeside! How great it is to be so near the lake, river, bay, beaches, parks, events, and to have such wonderful neighbors to share them with.
I wanted to send you an update to let you know that Megan Spatola has joined the Lakeside board as our Secretary. We're glad to have Megan join me, Donna, Kate, and Leslie on the Lakeside board. I asked Megan to offer some information about herself for me to share with neighbors...
"I am a lifelong Irondequoit resident and my husband, Rob, and I moved into the Lakeside neighborhood almost 5 years ago. We have two boys, a soon-to-be third grader and preschooler. I work full time as Speech Pathologist. I started running about a year ago and I am training to run my first half marathon in the fall. I love the sense of community and the friendships we’ve developed as a family in the Lakeside neighborhood."
Welcome Megan!
Stay tuned for more details. In the meantime, reach out anytime to me at [email protected] with ideas, questions, concerns, or ways to get involved in our Neighborhood Association.

Survey Says...
January 28, 2018: Thanks to all of you that voted for the street sign topper. We received 80 votes and lots of great comments. Some of the comments included the suggestion to make the font more readable by removing the word "Neighborhood" from the sign. I incorporated the feedback into the proposed design below. Also, one Lakesider wondered if there was another color besides white for the topper itself. I will check into that when submitting the design to the Town.

Our NEP Project was Funded!
January 2018: This past August, the neighborhood voted to submit a Neighborhood Enhancement Project (NEP) to the Town for funding to support unique street signs to be created and installed around Lakeside. We completed a formal application (click here) and learned last week that the project is going to be funded!
What Winona Woods created, and what the Town helped further with the neighborhood banners along St. Paul Blvd, is a sense of neighborhoods as quilt squares which are stitched together to form our great Town. We are growing as an association and looking to further our ability to spread the word that our association/neighborhood exists. These signs will solidify the physical areas of our neighborhood as well as welcome residents and visitors alike!
We were awarded 17 street sign "toppers" to be installed at the boundary intersections around Lakeside and have created three designs to choose from. Please check your email or our Facebook page for instructions on how to vote for the topper design by Saturday, January 20.
